DENVER — Apple is sending checks as part of a class-action settlementthat pays iPhone 4 users $15 for “misrepresenting” the quality of the phone’s antenna.

Dubbed Antennagate, the lawsuit was a PR nightmare for Apple from the start when the company didn’t take the complaints seriously, reported CNET.

AT&T Callers had trouble with reception using the then newer version of iPhone. Apple started offering protective covers that solved the connectivity problem.

According to the settlement, iPhone 4 users could either get a $15 cash settlement or a bumper.

The settlement found Apple was “misrepresenting and concealing material information in the marketing, advertising, sale and servicing of its iPhone 4–particularly as it relates to the quality of the mobile phone antenna and reception and related software.”

The settlement is part of a $53 million agreement reached in February that involved 18 separate lawsuits. The first checks started showing up Monday on social media.

Consumer Reports decided not to recommend the iPhone 4 because of the problem. The iPhone 4S fixed the problem.

Anyone who bought an iPhone 4 was able to sign up for a settlement check at iPhone4Settlement.com, however the deadline to make a claim was June 2012.
