CULPEPER COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- Authorities say two former Culpeper County Public School employees are accused of assaulting a 5-year-old autistic boy on a school bus in February.

The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that 50-year-old Linda Rastall, a former teacher’s aide, and 56-year-old Betty Turner, a former bus aide, were arrested Wednesday. The women were charged with assault and battery, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Lt. Jason Romero, with the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office, said in a news release that the incident happened the afternoon of Feb. 20 on a bus carrying children home from school.

Romero said that Rastall and Turner "physically and verbally assaulted the child in an attempt to control him causing injury."

The suspects, who were released on bond, are slated to appear in Culpeper Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on May 8.
