The transit police officer injured overnight in gunfire exchange with the two Boston Marathon bomber suspects is a 2002 Virginia Military Institute alumnus, said classmate WIlliam Talley.
Richard “Dic” Donohue Jr., age 33, is a Massachusetts native, according to press reports. CNN reports that he has been with the Massachusetts Transit Authority for three years.
Donohue made it out of surgery around 9:15 a.m. Friday, the Roanoke Times reports.
According to press reports he was injured as the carjacking chase went into Watertown and the suspects launched explosives from the vehicle.
