WASHINGTON (WTVR) — While federal prosecutors and lawyers are still debating whether the man who shot President Reagan should be allowed to spend more time with his mother in Central Virginia, new information is shedding light on what John Hinckley Jr. did during recent trips to the area.

According to the Associated Press, Secret Service reports show Hinckley has been well behaved during the trips he has made from a Washington mental hospital to Williamsburg.

Agents who tracked Hinckley’s visits said he did volunteer work and visited stores including PetSmart, Target,  Harris Teeter and the William and Mary art museum.

Hinckley’s attorneys are asking a judge to grant him more unsupervised trips, but doctors have said they think that is a bad idea.
