NORTH CAROLINA (WTVR) -North Carolina lawmakers are looking at the possibility of creating an official state religion.

A bill in the state legislature calls for the Tar Heel State to be completely sovereign in matters of religion.

The constitution doesn't allow Congress to support a specific religion, but it also does not  prohibit the states from doing so.|

The bill has a handful of supporters and many people who are against it.

The representative behind it, Harry Warren, says the measure isn't  to create a state religion, but instead is in support of Rowan County, which is being sued for starting its Board of Commissioner meetings with a Christian prayer.
