DOYLESTOWN, Penn. (WPVI) -- Police in several states are searching for a missing Brown University student who grew up in Pennsylvania.

Twenty-two-year-old Sunil Tripathi, a 2008 Radnor High School graduate, was last seen on March 16 at his apartment near Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

Police found his cell phone, credit card and other personal items in his room but Tripathi was nowhere to be found.

Tripathi, a philosophy major, had been on leave from Brown for about a year trying to figure out his future.

Tripathi’s aunt, Nina Taylor, is the last known person to have legitimate communication with the troubled student.

Taylor says her nephew, a very private person, left behind a vague note.

“There is concern as to whether he might have harmed himself. But the FBI has been clear that they are operating under the assumption that they are looking for him alive,” said Taylor. “By some miracle, Sunil is watching this. And we love him and we want to know that he is ok.”

Tripathi's family and friends from all over the country have flown to Providence, Rhode Island to join in the growing search.

Flyers are printed and posted daily and social media is also helping to spread the word of their loved one's disappearance. Family members have set up a Facebook page to assist in their search efforts.

The FBI has also joined the investigation.
