CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Chesterfield fire officials are releasing information about two weekend brush fires in the county.

The first fire, which broke out in the 12900 block of Bundle Road, was sparked by bonfire that was never completely extinguished.

When the wind picked up, the ashes kicked up and the fire eventually spread to over five acres. Several units, along with the Forestry Department, helped put out the fire in just over an hour.

Another brush fire in the 16500 block of River Road was the result of a controlled burn that got out of hand.

The flames spread across an estimated 10-15 acres and it took crews ovew two hours to contact.

Additionally, fire crews from Dinwiddie and Amelia counties helped knock down the flames.
