CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR)--Just shy of six weeks old, Jayden Simmons is fighting for his life at VCU Medical Center; listed in critical condition.
The baby’s father, 22-year-old Bradley W. Simmons, is charged with felony child abuse for allegedly shaking the baby.

Chesterfield police say the incident took place on March 13th at the child’s home in the 15200 block of Timsberry Circle in Chester.
Yvonne Carr, a family friend and nurse, says she was in the home when the baby started to show obvious signs of trauma.
“He was unresponsive, he was breathing but he was unresponsive,” Carr says.
Carr says she examined the baby and immediately recognized signs of brain swelling. She advised the family to take the baby to the hospital immediately.
A family member tells CBS 6 that Simmons informed the family that the baby fell off the bed.
Doctors at VCU Medical Center told investigators that the baby’s injuries were not consistent with the father’s story.
Simmons is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond.
