RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) — A community forum next week featuring a best-selling author will offer advice on a sometimes difficult subject.

Joe Klein, a TIME Magazine columnist and author, will headline “The Long Goodbye: One of the most important conversations you should have,” event presented by MEDARVA Healthcare and CBS 6.

Learn tips and best practices for approaching the sensitive subject as Klein brings the candor, sanity and humor he learned while making medical decisions for his parents during his their final days.

Here are some questions to ponder leading up to the event:

  • Who will make important medical decisions for a loved one once they are unable to make decisions themselves?
  • Which medical treatments will Mom find acceptable and which would she choose to forego?
  • How will Dad’s care be paid for?
  • Where do my parents prefer to be in their final transition through life? At an assisted living facility? Or at home?
