RICHMOND, Va (WTVR)--As bridge work begins on Interstate 95--planned for the next 72 hours--VDOT is busy trying to keep drivers up to date on delays.
Two weeks ago, similar repair work resulted in a five mile delay.
For the past week, both permanent and temporary message boards have displayed warnings to drivers; specifically that the Overbrook Road bridge replacement effort will result in backups.
VDOT is using traditional methods with television and radio ad's, but newer technology is coming to play with social media.
Both Facebook and Twitter are being updated regularly, as is VDOT's website.
Special low power radio transmitters broadcast info on 1620 AM, providing updates on the repair work and information about delays.
