PETERSBURG, Va. (WTVR)—Petersburg Police are investigating the death of a disabled, middle-aged man.

Officers said an acquaintance of the man called police this morning and asked them to do a welfare check.  Police said they didn't know what type of situation they were getting into, so they started blocking off the street.

The man was found dead at his home in the 100 block of Summit Street. His family told CBS 6 that officers would only tell them "somebody killed him." They say the door to the home was kicked in and there was blood in the dining room.

However, a police spokesperson told CBS 6 she's unaware at this time about any signs of trauma in this case.

CBS 6 will continue to update you on air and on the web as this investigation develops.
