KANSAS CITY, Mo.(WDAF) — A German Shepherd in Kansas City is on the road to recovery after a terrible act of animal cruelty.

The dog was thrown off an overpass and now needs expensive surgery to recover.

Two people rescued the dog, “Lindey,” after she was thrown from the bridge. Now they are leading the effort to raise money for the German Shepherd’s surgery.

A Kansas City veterinarian, Dr. Richard Smith with Piper Heritage Vet Clinic, examined Lindey after the fall.

Smith said Lindey had blood in her stomach, compression in her lungs and had been through a great deal of trauma. Her front paws were severely damaged and had to be splinted.

“One paw was literally dangling,” said Smith, who said. the dog also had signs of previous abuse and mistreatment.

According to WDAF, the veterinarian estimated the surgery and follow-up care could reach at least $10,000.

“We are so appreciative and grateful of those who share whatever they have to help this girl because she is a sweetheart,” Dr. Smith said.

Rescuers named the dog “Lindey” after the woman who rushed her to the vet.
