Internationally renowned classical pianist Van Cliburn died of bone cancer Wednesday at his Texas home, his publicist said.
Cliburn, who was 78, died at his Fort Worth home surrounded by family and friends.
The Associated Press reports Clibur burst onto the scene during a 1958 concert competition in Moscow.
The wire service says Clibur was one of the few classical musicians to enjoy rock star status.
