RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) – Two crashes closed Interstate 95 south near Maury Street in Richmond for nearly two hours early Friday morning. All lanes reopened around 5:30 a.m., according to Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Molnar.

Molnar said around 3:40 a.m., a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu ran off the right side of the interstate, hit a guardrail and then crossed over all southbound lanes. A tractor trailer then hit the Malibu when the vehicle stopped in the far left lane.

When a driver of a 2000 Toyota 4Runner tried to avoid the crash, he sideswiped a 1998 Dodge pick-up, Molnar said. Both vehicles ran off the right side of the road.

Molnar said the passengers in the Malibu suffered minor injuries. Everyone was wearing their seatbelt, he said.

The crash remains under investigation.
