APPOMATTOX, Va. (WTVR) - The man accused of killing eight people at an Appomattox home has plead guilty in court.

Christopher Speight, 42, was arrested in 2010 and charged with three counts of capital murder after he shot and killed his sister and her family.

He was sentenced Friday to five life sentences.

In addition to the capital murder charges, Speight also plead guilty to attempted capital murder of a Virginia State Police helicopter pilot. Speight fired a weapon at the helicopter as police searched for him following the Jan. 2010 shootings.

We have a crew in the courtroom and will update this story as we learn new information.

This is a developing story.
