Deadly wreck knocks out power, impacts area businesses

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va (WTVR) -- State police said Route 1 at Carson Road in Dinwiddie County reopened Wednesday afternoon after a fatal morning crash.

Sergeant Thomas J. Molnar said the crash happened just after 3:30 a.m. when the driver of a Volkswagen sedan lost control and ran off the left side of the road hitting a utility pole.

Molnar said 19-year-old Daniel R. Flexon, of Colonial Heights, died at the scene.

The passenger in the car, 19-year-old Raymond C. Scott Jr., of Beaumont, Va., suffered serious non-life threatening injuries.

State police are investigating the crash and said it is unclear at this time if the victims were wearing safety belts.

The crash has all lanes of Route closed until around 3 p.m.  The wreck knocked down power lines in the area and traffic was detoured on Main Street and Nash Road.
