PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- The mother of a teen held at an area juvenile detention center where four inmates escaped this past weekend is shedding new light on what happened.

Samantha Hinton, whose son is serving time in the Crater Detention Center, said she was worried when she learned a riot had broken out Saturday night.

"I called up to the facility and everything, but of course we couldn't get through," she said.

On Sunday, which is visitation day, Hinton recounted what her son told her happened.

Hinton said one of the detainees hit a guard in the head when he went to open a door. After that, she said the teen started opening up all of the doors and telling the other teens to come on out.

Hinton told CBS 6 News senior reporter Wayne Covil that she would like to see more corrections officers on duty at night to make sure another assault and escape does not happened again.

Additionally, the woman whose home was apparently used as a hideout by the escapees was in the process of repairing her home Monday.

Charlotte Donahue said the four escapees alleged broke into her home early Sunday morning.

"I'm a little unnerved, but I'm ok," she said. "You know, you get a little shaky and you think, 'Somebody has that kind of access to you.'"

Police tracked down Donahue on the phone to tell her what happened inside her home.

She said one of the teen's was hiding in the attic, two others were in one of the home's bedrooms and a fourth inmate got wrapped up in her fur coat to keep warm after all four had crossed a swamp.

After the escape, police said two of the detainees are being held at Riverside Regional Jail.

"We believe there two individuals played a bigger part and could be more violent than the other two," Prince George County Police Captain Brian Kei said.

The four teens now face six felonies, including assaulting a corrections officer and breaking and entering.
