JAPAN (WTVR) - While 'eat dirt' may be an insult in some cultures, for Japanese chef Toshio Tanabe it's the main course and the appetizer and the dessert.

Tanabe is mixing soil into his tasting menu at his fine-dining restaurant in Tokyo.

"This is a seafood restaurant," he told CNN. "So we have the flavors from the ocean. I was also looking for flavors from the earth."

The soil is heated to an extreme temperature before it is served.

Dirt meals don't come dirt cheap, Tanabe's dirt menu costs around $110 per person.
