Westboro Baptist Church founder’s granddaughter quits, apologizes

WICHITA, Kan. (WTVR) – The granddaughter of Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps quit the church and is now apologizing for her actions.

Megan Phelps-Roper, 27, was responsible for the majority of the Kansas-based church’s social media, according to a report from Fox4KC.com.

Westboro Baptist Church is known around the nation for protesting at military funerals. Church members also protested against gay and Jewish groups.

“We know that we’ve done and said things that hurt people,” Phelps-Roper wrote in a blog. “Inflicting pain on others wasn’t the goal, but it was one of the outcomes. We wish it weren’t so, and regret that hurt.
