RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Richmond firefighters are investigating an early morning house fire on the city's Southside.

The fire started inside a home in the 2300 block of Marion Mashore Street, just off Hull Street Road, around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday.

A neighbor called 911 after seeing flames shooting out of the home.

When fire crews arrived, they found the home fully engulfed in flames.

"I was just trying to get a hold of my neighbor, get the fire department out here so we could get the fire put out," the neighbor said.  "I'm really grateful that no one was in the house.  It's amazing we all got out the way we did."

It took firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control. The homeowner was not hurt. He was at work when the fire broke out.

Several neighbors were also evacuated from their homes as a precaution because the homes in the area are located so close together.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
