HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -
A 7-year-old student brought a loaded gun to Ratcliffe Elementary School in Henrico County, according to Henrico police. The student, a second grader, flashed the gun while on the bus on the way to school Monday morning, police said.
School officials said the student did threaten several classmates while on the bus. The school principal contacted students who were threatened by the second grader.
When the child brought the gun to class, a classmate told a teacher and the gun was discovered around 8:40 a.m.
Andy Jenks, spokesperson with Henrico Public Schools, said that no one spoke up on the bus, “for whatever reason, we’re not sure.”
The school resource officers are investigating the incident, she said.
Many parents, after they received calls, rushed to pick up their children. Parents were relieved that no one was injured but were left wondering how the child was able to get a gun.
A parent added that this proves dialogue with children about gun safety and gun violence is needed, and important to continue.
