Tornado watch expires for Central Virginia

UPDATED: The Tornado Watch for central and most of eastern Virginia has been allowed to expire early. The severe wind threat is over for all of Virginia. Wind gusts will continue for central Virginia early this morning in the 25 to 35 mph range. Along the coast, gusts will be higher 35 to 45 mph.

EARLIER: Tornado Watch for Richmond and much of central Virginia has expired. Tornado watch continues for eastern Va., where the line of severe wind is racing east. This means that conditions are favorable for the possible development of a tornado.

All of Central Virginia is now under a tornado watch. This means that conditions are favorable for the possible development of a tornado.

If there is a tornado warning, it means one has been spotted. We will send out a breaking news alert if that happens.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 10:00 p.m. for western and southwestern Virginia ahead of a squall line of rapidly moving severe thunderstorms.
