(WTVR) – New data released by the Bureau of Labor shows that men still earn more than women, but women are starting to close in on the wage gap in Virginia.

In 2011, women made 80 cents for every dollar men made, which is more than five percentage points from the year before.

The ratio of female-to-male earnings in 2011 varied from 68 percent in Louisiana to almost 90 percent in California.  The national average was 82 percent.
