PULASKI COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Virginia State Police are looking for the driver who intentionally hit a state trooper early Saturday morning.

At 6:44 a.m., Senior Tropper J.A. Jones, 48, stopped to check on a pedestrian walking along Route 100 near the New River Valley Airport.  When Trooper Jones offered to help the pedestrian, the man became combative, ran towards a car and fled the scene.

Seconds later, Trooper Jones saw another car leaving and gestured the vehicle to stop.  The driver of the car allegedly struck the trooper at a high speed, knocking him to the ground.  The car fled the scene.

Spokesperson Corinne Geller said Jones was flown Roanoke Memorial Hospital for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

State Police is currently investigating this incident.
