RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for parts of west-central and northwest Virginia from 4 p.m. Tuesday through 9 a.m. Wednesday. Light sleet accumulations and ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch are expected, mainly in elevations of 1500 feet and higher.
Abundant moisture has been overrunning cold air Tuesday in our region, falling into an air-mass conducive for freezing rain at the ground (where surface temperatures are at or below 32 degrees), or even sleet (where the near-surface sub-freezing layer is deep enough for rain to freeze into ice pellets).
The following counties are included in the Advisory: Albemarle, Augusta, Greene, Madison, Nelson, Page, Rockingham, and Shenandoah. Waynesboro City, VA is also included.
