RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- In order to have a successful campaign Governor Bob McDonnell resigned form his post as Virginia's Attorney General.

However, it appears McDonnell's possible successor will not resign.

In fact, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli said that after speaking with other governors who were at one point attorneys general,  he believes he can both continue to serve as attorney general and effectively run a campaign for governor.

Cuccinelli  also said that he made a promise to Virginians four years ago to serve out his entire term. He said he plans to keep that promise and fulfill his obligations as attorney general.
