DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- Search warrants obtained by CBS 6 News reveal that the father of a man accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend, her mother and later his own father called police before the shooting.
Officials said Hebert Bland Sr. called the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office Monday just before 1 p.m. to report his son, Hebert Bland Jr., may have stolen a .38 special handgun and been involved in a shooting.
When the first deputy arrived at 1:17 p.m., Bland Jr. was walking out of the house with a gun in each hand. Then he dropped one of the guns and collapsed.
It was then that deputies discovered the body of his father inside the home. According to the search warrant, they also recovered a .25 caliber pistol from the home.
By early evening, Chesterfield County Police connected Bland Jr. with the murders of Barbara and Elizabeth Fassett, whose bodies were discovered inside their Matoaca home on River Road.
Bland Jr. was taken by Medflight to VCU Medical Center where he was served with murder charges Tuesday.
For now, Dinwiddie County has not filed any charges against the 23-year-old, who is expected to remain in the hospital for another week.
