A significant pattern change will bring much milder weather into the region this weekend into early next week.  Our current jet stream is depicted in the figure below, with the seasonally weather in place across all but the far southern U.S.Zach Jet1

Late this week, a strong trough will dig into the southwest U.S. between two large areas of high pressure over the northeast Pacific and southwest Atlantic.  The East Coast will be under the influence of strong southwesterly flow beneath the western Atlantic ridge, allowing temperatures to skyrocket into the upper 60s and low 70s this weekend.  The jet stream pattern expected this weekend into early next week is shown below.

If you’re a cold weather lover, the deep trough over the southwest U.S. shown above will shift east enough to drive a strong cold front through our area late next week.  Any prospects for snow with the next pattern change continue to look slim.  Enjoy the warm weather while it lasts.  -Zach
