CORVALLIS, Ore. (CNN/KVAL) — “Ask for what you want, plainly and clearly. If you don’t ask, you will probably never receive.”

That’s a philosophy Sandy McCulloch has lived by over the course of his 82 years on this earth. It’s a philosophy that goes through his mind every time he hangs a bold, homemade sign around his neck.

It reads: “Wanted: A Wife.”

At the bottom of the sign is another inscription: “This is not kidding.”

He wears it almost every day around his hometown of Corvallis, Ore.

McCulloch is no stranger to the fairer sex. He was married and divorced three times over the course of 39 years, and he said he regrets none of it.

“I’ve had a wonderful life, knowing a lot of people and a lot of women” McCulloch said.

At the age of 82, McCulloch said he’s changed, going so far as to say he has “cleaned up” his act.”

What does that mean? He said he’s not looking for what his 20-year-old self would have looked for in a wife.

“At this point, I’d love to just find the perfect companion,” McCulloch said.

That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any criteria. For starters, his potential wife must be over 60, love books, have a sense of humor and live in Corvallis.

The last requirement may be the most important.

“I love Corvallis,” McCulloch said. “It’s the perfect place for an old man.”

The first requirement may be the least.

“If a gorgeous 40- or 50-year-old came along and said, ‘I’m too young, but I want to be your wife,’ I’d probably do it,” McCulloch said.
