Brazen post holiday robbery at Virginia Bank

Posted

NORFOLK, VA (WTVR) -  Police are looking for the man who robbed a Norfolk bank with a rifle.

Police say the man walked into the Wells Fargo on North Military Highway just before noon on Wednesday with a rifle over his shoulder and demanded money. The teller gave him money and he ran away from the business.

Both customers and shoppers say it is a miracle no one was hurt. The bank was crowded with post-Christmas shoppers at the time of the robbery.

"I was really surprised when I came up and saw all of this, I mean because it`s so busy around here. You would never expect someone to come to this branch in particular with all these witnesses. That`s just crazy," says shocked bank customer Teresa Mitchell.

The bank will remain closed until Thursday while police investigate.

The suspect was seen leaving the bank in a blue Jeep Grand Cherokee. Police are still searching for him.
