NEWTOWN, Conn. (WTVR) – A child who was inside Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut Friday morning said when students first heard the crash, they thought a custodian had knocked something over.

“Then we heard screaming,” the student told WABC. “We went to the wall and we sat down and then police came in and said ‘is he in here’. Then somebody yelled ‘get to a safe place.’ So we went to a closest in the gym and we sat there for a little while. And then the police were knocking on the door and said we’re evacuating people, we’re evacuating people, so we ran out.
