FORT LEE, Va. (WTVR) - It was an emotional homecoming Thursday morning at Fort Lee as 19 soldiers with the Army’s 612th Movement Control Detachment returned home. The soldiers were on a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan.

"I've been waiting for this moment for nine months,"  Staff Sgt. Perez said. Perez, who just completed his third tour, said every deployment is different and that he missed his family.

"I was sad [when he left], but when my mom told me my dad was coming home, I got excited," Estrella Perez, 7, said. Perez, her sister, brother and mother said they are happy to see dad return home in time for Christmas.

"The children were making wish lists and the first thing they said was 'Daddy home for Christmas' is what they wanted," wife Marcela Perez said.
