Hanover, Va. (WTVR) - Jason Akers, 26 year-old, is wanted by Virginia State Police for two felony counts of failing to comply with sex offender registry requirements.

He's also wanted for contempt of court in Hanover County.

In 2006, Akers was convicted for the rape and sodomy of a minor in Henrico county.

“We believe very strongly that he's in the area, possibly staying house to house with friends or associates,” said Sgt. Chris Whitely with the Hanover Sheriff’s Office.

While investigators warn that Akers may be armed, so you should call police if you see him, Akers’ grandfather tells CBS 6, “I  don`t think Jason is armed, and I don`t think he`s dangerous.... The last time I saw him was three weeks ago.”

But, Lipscomb says it wasn’t at his house.

Akers’ last known address was his grandparent's house on Georgetown road in Hanover, but investigators don't believe he's been at that that address for some time.

Akers is a 5’10”, 180 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Authorities believe Akers is still in Hanover County or the Metro Richmond area.

Anyone with information regarding Akers’ whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at (804) 365-6140 or the Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
