UPDATE: Police arrest and charge man with Hopewell shooting

HOPEWELL, Va. (WTVR) -  Police officers have arrested and charged the suspect who allegedly shot a man outside of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post in Hopewell. 

Around 2 a.m. Sunday morning officers of the Hopewell Police Department were monitoring the VFW at 206 Winston Churchill Dr. due to a large gathering at the establishment when an altercation broke out.

The passenger in a vehicle suffered gunshot wounds to the head and torso. The victim was transported to John Randolph Medical Center and then to VCU Medical Center.

Officers on scene gave chase immediately after the shooting and were able to apprehend the shooter at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Jacory Moore, age 23 of Petersburg, Virginia. He remains at VCU Medical Center in critical condition.

The offender has been identified as Kentrell Butts, age 20 of Hopewell. He has been charged and is currently being held with no bond.
