RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Electric bills have risen by 18 percent in the past five years, according to the State Corporation Commission.

Power bills have gone up since the state stopped the deregulation utility companies five years ago.  The bill increase involves fuel and transmission costs that are traditionally passed down to customers.

Newsleader.com says the commission approved $1.3 billion of additional revenue for Dominion Virginia Power.  As a result, a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month rise $16.63, or an 18 percent increase.
