RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – With clear skies overnight and light winds, fog has formed in parts of the Commonwealth. The fog in central Virginia is patchy and shallow in most locations, but the fog once you get west of Charlottesville on I-64 and all along I-81 is especially dense. For example, the visibility at Staunton pre-sunrise is near-zero. If your holiday travels take you into western Virginia, please use extra caution driving there! Slow down, allow extra space between you and surrounding vehicles, keep your headlights on the low or fog beam settings, and keep the noise level in your vehicle at a minimum so you can better hear surrounding warning horns.

Although widespread dense fog is not prevalent in central Virginia, there are plenty of locations experiencing patchy, but dense, fog. A report of dense fog in the South Richmond Metro came in along the Powhite Parkway down to the Midlothian Turnpike. In Meherrin just outside of Farmville, a CBS 6 viewer says, “The fog is really bad here. My truck is just 20 feet away and we can’t see it from the front window.”

Fog should mix out with improving visibilities between 9 and 10 a.m.
