Richmond, VA (WTVR) – AAA Mid-Atlantic supports a plan to increase Virginia’s gas tax.

The auto club says while it knows a gas tax wouldn’t be popular, it is only a small inconvenience to drivers because while your pay has gone up since 1986 the gas tax has not.

At next year’s General Assembly Session, the Governor will consider the 13 cent a gallon increase, proposed by Senator John Watkins as an alternative to tolls.

The money would be used to pay for maintenance and road improvement projects.
