RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)–The winner of the 1st District city council race has yet to be officially declared.
The race was ruled too close to call between two-term incumbent Councilman Bruce Tyler and his challenger Jonathan Baliles, son of a former Va. governor.
The Richmond Election Board met Monday to discuss the provisional ballots. Baliles led Tyler by just 24 votes, without factoring in the provisional ballots.
A provisional vote simply means the votes were not counted until valid identification was given by the voter. Voters had until 12:00 p.m. Friday to provide that identification.
Now, that those votes have been tallied, Baliles is ahead by 22 votes. Baliles is the certified winner, but there will be a re-count and the results are expected at sometime this week, Baliles noted on his Facebook page.
