(WTVR)--A proposal to put tolls on Interstate 95 south of Richmond has already created quite a backlash in parts of Virginia.

Now, there is also talk of putting them on Interstate 64. Along with the discussion though are options such as HOV-like lanes that expedite a traveler's passage, just for a price.

"I hate tolls, I hate them so much," Christopher Newport University student Jessie Croke exclaimed.

The Virginian-Pilot is reporting that a plan to reduce congestion and the number of accidents on the 75-mile stretch of I-64 between Richmond and Hampton Roads could include at least one toll plaza.

"Every dollar does count, it really does,"  Croke said.

"If you are in that type of situation where every dollar is that critical for you--don't drive," Chesapeake resident Ralph Thompson said.

Thompson is not in love with the ideas of more tolls, but he's hopeful the proposed plan would go towards a widening project that has yet to receive the green light.

"The 64 corridor we have all known about it for years," Thompson said.  "It should have been widened like 95.  But why it got bypassed, no one around here seems to know."

The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold three meetings next month to discuss what's being called the "Interstate 64 Peninsula Study."

A public hearing will take place at the VDOT central office in Richmond on December 13th.
