Polling problems reported in Central Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Little more than an hour after polls have opened, malfunctions and outages are are being reported in Chesterfield and the city of Richmond.

Dominion reports an outage lasted at least a half an hour at the MathScience innovation Center located in the 2400 block of Hartman Avenue. According to Dominion, power was lost at least twice at this location.

Dominion says the outage affected 1388 customers. The repair was made just after 7:45 this morning. They have not yet figured out what caused the outage.

“We have a plan in place for voting today,” said Karl Neddenien, a Dominion spokesman. “As soon as the power goes out at a polling location–it’s our number one priority to get it back online.”

The outage also temporarily impacted two other polling locations: The Abundant Life Church at the 3700 Block of Goodell Road and at Ratcliffe Elementary in the 2900 Block of Thalen Street. According to Dominion. the power outages at those two locations lasted just a few minutes.

The State Board of Elections confirms that there was a delay in the start of voting at Woolridge Elementary School at the 5400 block of Timber Bluff Parkway in Midlothian.

According to Nikki Sheridan with the State Board of Elections, human error led to an approximately 30 minute delay in voting there. A poll worker attempted to log into the online registration database with incorrect username and password.
