WEST COLUMBIA, Texas (KPRC) - A postal worker in Texas could be out of a job after complaints about a sign in the window of her mail truck.

This all started when a postal worker was spotted driving on her mail route with an Obama-Biden sign on the dashboard.

Sources said the postal employee was given the political sign by someone along her route last week -- and that she planned to take it home at the end of the day.

Jason Boone , the acting manager of the West Columbia Post Office, said the letter carrier is still delivering mail while the incident is under investigation, but that what she did was definitely against the rules.

The post office also released a statement, describing the letter carrier's actions as a "clear violation of the Hatch Act and postal policy."

The Hatch Act specifically says a federal worker may not engage in political activity and may not distribute or display campaign materials.

Officials said it could take weeks before the letter carrier will find out whether she will be suspended or fired.

Some residents are torn over whether the employee should be disciplined for the Obama-Biden sign.

"This is America. You have a right to say what you want. You have an opinion," one person said.

However, others were not so sure.

"I don't care whose sign it was. It was wrong,” another person in town said. “It doesn't make any difference, and it doesn't make any difference what color the letter carrier was."
