RICHMOND, Va (WTVR)  – Work will continue along the Huguenot Bridge this week in the daytime and nighttime hours. From midnight to 6 a.m. VDOT says flaggers will alternate one lane of traffic over the bridge and that drivers should expect periodic delays of up to 15 minutes. This work will clear the old bridge over the James River.

Here is the schedule for the next few weeks, weather permitting:

Nov. 5-8 (Monday-Thursday)
24 hours a day: Flaggers will alternate one lane of traffic over the bridge. Expect periodic delays of up to 15 minutes. Crews will be hauling materials from Westham Station Road to Riverside Drive.

Nov. 12-20 (Monday through the following Tuesday)
11 p.m.-6 a.m. – Traffic will be stopped for up to 45 minutes overnight to allow crews to erect structural steel for the new bridge. Traffic will resume after each section is in place.

To avoid delays, drivers are encouraged to use the following alternate routes:

  • Northbound Huguenot Road - Chippenham Parkway (Route 150) north over the Willey Bridge to River Road east to Huguenot Road or use Powhite Parkway (toll) east into Richmond
  • Southbound Huguenot Road – River Road west to Chippenham Parkway (Route 150) south to Huguenot Road.
