KITTY HAWK, N.C. (WTVR) - Roads in Kitty Hawk are either under water or sand after Hurricane Sandy's winds and rain swiped the outer banks.

Highway 12 has lots of ponding on it, but much of the beach has also washed over it.

Authorities believe some of the highway was washed away, but have not confirmed that yet.

One person living there says he witnessed 15 to 20 foot swells going over top of the dunes, taking away the shoreline.

People living there also say Route 158 is experiencing the worst flooding in 50 years.
