HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - The three teenagers accused of murdering a 16-year-old Atlee High School student plead not guilty as their trial started Monday morning in Hanover County. Xavia Highsmith, Kevin Drayton, and Da’von T. Byars are all charged with first-degree murder and face life-in-prison sentences if convicted.

Prosecutors said the teenagers killed Brett Wells after stealing four ounces of marijuana from the 16 year old. Lawyers for the teenagers argued Wells was killed in self defense after he and a friend pursued the trio outside Wells' Mechanicsville home.

Watch CBS 6 tonight at 5 and 6 for the latest on today's bench trial.
