RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Bill's Barbecue closed its doors last month due to the struggling economy.

On Saturday, the restaurant held a silent auction to give customers a chance to own a piece of the chain that served Richmonders for the past 80 years.

Four large neon signs, banners, pictures and other memorabilia that used to hang inside the restaurants were up for grabs.

One man bought a booth from the auction and plans on using it to keep the memories alive.

"I got some pictures over the top of the booth to make it look like back in the 60's, like Bill's used to look," he said.

People started lining up for the auction at 6 a.m., while the auction opened its doors at 8.

Organizers say there were more than a hundred people in line for the auction.  Nearly everyone that wanted some Bill's souvenirs walked away with something.
