RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)--Another night of back-to-back armed robberies. By 11 p.m., CBS 6 had learned of three; two on Clay St and one on Grove Avenue.
Just after 10 p.m., VCU Police sent out a text alert that there was an armed robbery on the Monroe Park campus, in the 1000 block of Grove Avenue, near Harrison Street.
This location is near the Cabell-Branch library and Student Commons on the Monroe Park campus.
Then 15 minutes later VCU Police sent an alert of an off-campus robbery. That was in the 700 block of W. Clay. VCU Police said to avoid both areas as they work to investigate the crimes.
CBS 6 spoke with the victim of the Clay Street robbery and he said he was checking his phone to get the VCU alert when he was robbed. We will have more on that interview starting at 4:30 a.m. The young man had a gun placed against his neck in the robbery.
Richmond Police have said they are actually investigating a third robbery. That one occurred in the 1300 block of Clay. The victim ran to Broad Street, near the Siegel Center to report the crime.
Victims subscribed the suspect as a black male, in his 20s, wearing a blue flat billed hat, gray hoodie style sweatshirt, blue jeans and white sneakers. The suspect was possibly related to a white Chevy Impala with a spotlight with a possible second driver.
Police sources told CBS 6 that they believe these incidents are connected because of the pattern, and the time frames.
This comes after a crime spree last week, with six robbery attempts within two hours last week, all but one on the VCU Monroe Park campus. Then the next night there was a fight and stabbing on the MCV campus.
This is a breaking news alert. We will have more information as police make it available to us.
