CHICAGO (CBS News) – If you’re looking to stay in shape and keep your body healthy, you might want to take a nap.

A new study from the University of Chicago found that even fat cells need rest.

Not getting enough sleep reduces the ability of those cells to respond to the hormone insulin, which is crucial for regulating how your body uses and stores energy. Over time that could lead to weight gain, Type 2 diabetes and other problems.

The study is the first to examine the effects of sleep deprivation on fat cells in humans.
