(CNN) - What does the color of your car say about you?  If it's white, you're in a big crowd.

White was the top paint color choice this year for American vehicle buyers.

About one out of five new cars sold in the U.S. was white. That's also the top color worldwide, making up 22 percent of global auto sales.

Coming in number two both in the U.S. and worldwide is black, with 19 percent of sales.

Silver or gray are the third-most-popular choices, in about 16 percent of American sales and 12 percent elsewhere.

The least-popular color? Green- with just two percent of drivers wanting to stand out, or perhaps blend in with nature.

Auto paint manufacturer PPG announced the study's findings.
