CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va (WTVR) -- It's one of the most hotly contested Senate races in the country, and it will air on CBS 6 and WTVR.com, at 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8.

George Allen and Tim Kaine are both hoping to replace retiring Virginia Senator Jim Webb.  Tonight the two candidates will go head to head in a debate in Chesterfield County.

For the fourth time the two will meet on the same stage at the same time, for a much anticipated Senate showdown, leading up to the election.  The two men are already addressing several key issues--that some political experts said could prove to be crucial in the Senate race.

However the day before the debate, Democratic hopeful Tim Kaine and Republican candidate George Allen were on the campus of the University of Richmond on Sunday.  One at a time, they took to the stage to discuss a variety of topics including energy, education and healthcare.

Kaine is continuing to support the Affordable Care Act, while Allen--who is seeking to reclaim the Senate seat he lost in 2006--said he is focused on repealing the healthcare law.

"First thing I think we ought to do is repeal and replace Obamacare," Republican Senate candidate George Allen said.  "It is going to add over a trillion dollars in spending."

"I was a supporter and remain a supporter of the Affordable Care Act," Democratic Senate candidate Tim Kaine said.  "I felt like it was a statement that we were going to put some things in the rear view mirror."

This Virginia race could be crucial in determining which political party takes control in the Senate.

You can watch Monday night's debate between George Allen and Tim Kaine on CBS 6, live at 8:00 p.m.  We will also stream the debate live here on our website.
