RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- Several hundred students gathered on the campus of the University of Richmond Sunday evening to voice concerns about the decision to cut the men's track and soccer programs.

"Last Friday, my world was turned upside down," Patrick Love, a member of the track and field team, said to the audience gathered.

The university is cutting the track and soccer programs to make way for a new sport: men's lacrosse.

"Many of us will be forced to leave this university and attend others around the United States," Love continued.

University President  Edward Ayers took several questions from the student body regarding the decision, however, he reiterated that the University's decision was final.

"The addition of men's lacrosse will solidify relationships with schools we know are important pipelines to Richmond," Ayers said.

The University of Richmond's Men's Lacrosse team is slated to begin competition at the University in 2014.
